Your first consonant ก

The reason you find different symbols for the same sound is related to Thai traditions, and in many cases this will also help you understand the tone of the word, but don't worry about that for now, we will learn about tones on a different course, as you have enough on your plate already

ข ไข่ -   kŏr kài

if you can't tell the difference from the video don't worry, that's normal, once you'll remember all the letters with confidence we will train your tone recognition skills 

ค ควาย - kor kwaai

Don't worry, this is the last one for the 'K' sound

ฆ ระฆัง - kor rá-kang

This is an unusual soud for English speaking students, try to repeat it out loud 10 times, to build muscle memory in your toungue

ง  งู - ngor nguu

Try to write all of the words you have learned so far, and write them 10 times, do this exercise at least 2 times a day to consolidate your memory

This word looks similar to the previous one but it has a different sound, make sure you write both of them back to back at least 10 times to get familiar with the difference

Learn the Thai Consonants

Although  Thai language has 32 vowels, but each vowel has only one sounds so you will be able to read words correctly. 

-ะ  (a)  is a short sound, like “adapt” in English.  -า  (aa)  is a long sound, like “car” in English. The “-” indicates the position of the consonant. -ะ  (a)  and -า  (aa)  are placed after the consonant.

We’ll learn about the particle. ‘ค่ะ kà’ and ‘ครับ (kráp)’ that are added at the end of a sentence. They are used to show politeness, similar to the English word 'please.'    'ค่ะ kà ' is used by women in statements to convey responses, agreement, or formality."  “ครับ (kráp) ” is used by men in statements to indicate a response, agreement, or a question."

How to say Thank you

To respond;  We say ไม่เป็นไรค่ะ/ครับ mâi bpen rai kà/kráp  means  It’s ok.

How to say I’m sorry

Common: สวัสดี ค่ะ/ครับ   sà-wàt dii kà / kráp  (it’s a common word to say goodbye).   Formal : ขอตัวก่อน ค่ะ/ครับ kŏr dtua gòrn  kà / kráp = If you'll excuse me.  (It’s used for business or to talk to adults)

How to Say Goodbye

1 = หนึ่ง  nùeng ,  2 = สอง  sŏrng, 3 = สาม  săam,  4 = สี่  sìi,  5 = ห้า  hâa
